Targeting At The Right Customer

May 4th, 2008 by amparotravers

By Seraphina Tan You are ready and raring to go. Your marketing plans are all set and you have put aside a nice budget thatll help you inform your potential customers about your daycare centre but wait! Do you know who your customers are? Does your target customer have a face? Do you know where they live, whats their lifestyle, etc? To effectively kick-start an effective marketing campaign, you first need to give your customer a face. You need to know who you are intending to target. To do that, you need to perform some form of segmentation and target marketing. Without proper market segmentation and targeting, your entire marketing strategy will be without focus. Segmentation is the identification of subgroups of consumers within a market who share similar needs and demonstrate similar purchasing behavior. Which means you need break your customers down into smaller groups for easy management. Studies have shown that customers within the same segment are likely to exhibit similar behavioral traits and therefore, you can focus your marketing efforts on the group of prospects that are “most likely” to purchase your services. Sounds like a tall order, dont worry. Read on, it is actually fairly simple. First, there are a number of ways in which you can segment a market: By Demographic (based on gender, age, etc), by Psychographic (based on lifestyle or belief), by Geographic (based on location) or by Behavioristic (based on purchasing behavior). Heres how you apply it to the daycare business. Demographic You can choose to segment the parents according to their age. Psychographic You can also choose to segment the parents according to the number of children they have. Geographic This is simple. You segment your market according to where they stay or where they work. Behavioristic You segment your market according to their purchasing power. After you have successfully segmented your market, you need to select the right segment targeting. For simplicity sake, lets say we choose to segment our market by geographic region. After segmenting the parents according to where they stay/work, we choose to target at parents staying / working at Town A. Before you start marketing to parents staying / working in Town A, you need to consider a few criterias. Is the segment viable and sustainable? Can we make a profit from it? Is the segment accessible? How easy is it for us to reach the segment? Is the segment measurable? Are we able to obtain realistic data to consider its potential? If your segment passes the test, then you are now ready to market to them. Your target customers now got a face! How to Write Marketing Communications Plans

May 1st, 2008 by amparotravers

By Verena Veneeva Marketing Communications are all strategies, tactics, and activities involved in getting the desired marketing messages to intended target markets, regardless of the media used (MarcommWise, 2006). Tony Yeshin (1999) defines marketing communications as the process by which a marketer develops and presents stimuli to a defined target audience with a purpose of eliciting a desired set of responses (Yeshin, 1999). Marketing communications are: adverting, sales promotions, personal selling, PR and direct and interactive marketing (Fill, 1999).Consequently Marketing Communications Plan is the marketing plan which promotional plan incorporates two or more integrated marketing communications mediums aiming to reiterate the same goals and objectives. Marketing Communications Plans are considered by many professionals as an excellent way to effectively communicate with target audience.Marketing Communications Plans are generally based on two different frameworks: Marketing Communications Planning Framework and SOSTAC (Fill, 1999). Marketing Communications Plans consist of the following vital elements: Context analysis Promotional objectives Marketing communications strategy Promotional mix (methods and tools) Budget schedule Evaluation and control (Fill, 1999). When writing marketing communications plan it is important to: 1. Set corporate, marketing and marketing communications objectives, which would support and integrate with each other. 2. Develop segmentation, targeting and positioning strategies 3. Develop creative message with which Marketing Communications Plan with communicate with target audience 4. Select and justify one or combination of marketing strategies (push, pull or profile) 5. Develop well-rounded and creative set of promotional mediums and allocate appropriate budget for each medium. 6. Create contingency planning strategy (in case something goes wrong) 7. Set strict set of evaluation and control mediums which would include milestones and continuous evaluation References Fill C (1999) Marketing Communications, 2nd Edition, Prentice Hall EuropeYeshin T, (1999) Integrated Marketing Communications, The chartered institute of marketing, Butterworth Heinemann, Oxfordhttp://www.marcommwise.com/glossary.phtml?a=m&s=0 Please find below links to excellent Marketing Communications Plans: C/M/315. Wedding Favor Boxes - Wedding Favor Bags - Wedding Favor Packaging

April 26th, 2008 by amparotravers

By Ashley Rader A great wedding favor can be further highlighted by the packaging used for presentation. Without great packaging a great favor can loose some of its luster. A great bath and relaxation set can be dramatically presented in a knothole gift bag, which is very appropriate for this type of favor. And organza bags are great for small trinkets and jewelry or even soap, they add an elegant touch to whatever gift or favor is presented in these delicate little bags. There are some wedding favor packages that do double duty. For example there is a chair place card holder and favor box, or the bride and groom place card holder and favor box and for the really fashion conscious there is the stylish purse and shoe place card holder and favor box. For an added touch of class you can also go with the silver monogrammed chair and favor box, adorned with a heart and ribbon. Favor boxes come in all sizes, shapes and colors. You can go with a traditional simple square box, but even this has a selection of colors and adornments to choose from; they come in Tiffany Blue, textured Ivory, Chocolate Brown, and many other colors, and are further adorned with a ribbon tied in a bow. There are also miniature boxes and take out style boxes. You can get heart shaped boxes that are embossed or adorned with spring time flowers. Some of the more interesting shapes are the triangle truffle boxes, the chest shaped boxes, or pyramid shaped boxes. These too come in a variety of colors and with different adornments. You can get floral topped boxes or fruit topped boxes to match your wedding style. There are even mix and match boxes. For the more casual look how about mini favor pails. And for mints and candy or almonds there are tins. So whatever favor you decide on there is a very well suited package option. You can match this packaging to your wedding style from the shape to the color and finally the adornments, like sand dollars for the beach wedding, or berries for a fall wedding, and daisies for a summer or spring wedding. Ashley Rader is the owner of Moments of Elegance, an online wedding boutique specializing in wedding favors including wedding favor boxes and a huge collection of wedding favor bags that will say thank you with style and will truly make your event unforgettable. Modern Marketing

April 24th, 2008 by amparotravers

By Kurt Mortensen The homogeneous mass market, which has dictated the offerings of U.S. producers since the dawn of the industrial revolution, is confronting its demise. At least, that’s the word from advertising and marketing experts as we transition into a new millennium. The scattershot advertising approach, which wasn’t necessarily all that effective in the past, will be even less so in the 21st century. The most obvious alternative, shifting to narrower and more specialized markets, is already being tried by many small firms with substantial success. If you don’t believe it, look no further than the assembly-line hamburger maker, Burger King, which was a forerunner in realizing that customers want it “their way” and their way is not necessarily everyone else’s. As touted in its advertising, Burger King offered “customized” burgers based on a patron’s preferences, down to the ketchup, a far cry from the typical one-way-suits-all quarter-pounder. Because the mass market is splintering into fragments, now is an opportune time to figure out which fragments are yours. Writes prophetess of trends Faith Popcorn in her latest version of The Popcorn Report: “Markets are becoming niches and niches are growing smaller. As this market miniaturization occurs, customers gain more stature - and they know it.” Reaching those customers requires a new strategy. Advertising How Can I Profit from Advertising? Advertising, defined as “the action of attracting public attention to a product or business,” is one of many marketing tools you can use to draw more customers with greater frequency. Also falling under the broad umbrella of marketing are public relations and promotional programs, signage, premiums and incentives, newsletters, trade shows and word of mouth - in short, everything you do to help attain your company’s overall goals. Ideally, your firm should invest in an ongoing, consistent marketing program using a combination of these tools for maximum impact. Advertising And Your Business Remind customers and prospects about the benefits of your product or service. Establish and maintain your distinct identity or “personality.” Enhance your reputation. Encourage existing customers to buy more of what you sell. Attract new customers and replace lost ones. Slowly build sales to boost your bottom line. Kurt Mortensens trademark is Magnetic Persuasion; rather than convincing others, he teaches that you should attract them, just like a magnet attracts metal filings. He teaches that sales have changed and the consumer has become exponentially more skeptical and cynical within the last five years. Most persuaders are using only 2 or 3 persuasion techniques when there are actually 120 available! An Introduction to Laser Hair Removal

April 22nd, 2008 by amparotravers

By Magdalena Witkowska What is laser hair removal? Laser hair removal, in simple terms, is the procedure which uses a laser or a special light to assistin the epilation process. In epilation, the entire hair strand is removed from the hair follicle. This is in contrast to depilation, which deals in removing hair that is above the skin surface. Epilation is the process that produces better hair removing results. A simpler way to distinguish the two is this: Depilation deals with hair removal methods that are temporary (such as shaving), while epilation has to do with the treatments that can produce both temporary and long lasting results, such as waxing, tweezing, and laser hair removal. Laser hair removal works in a relatively straightforward manner. In the procedure, a beam of focused light is applied to the skin. This light, guided by the pigments present in hair, differentiates between the skin surface and the hair strand itself. Once it is locked on into the hair strand, it burns the hair follicle, causing permanent damage. The damaged hair follicle is then unable to grow more hair. At the very least, the procedure causes hair to grow much more slowly. While a burned follicle may sound like a painful thing to endure, it produces only a slight stinging sensation in most patients. The pain is generally so weak that anesthesia or painkillers are not required. Even if you have a low tolerance for pain, laser hair removal is unlikely to make you suffer in any significant way. The people most likely to benefit from laser hair removal are those with lighter skin tones coupled with dark hair colors. This is because the laser can more easily differentiate between the aforementioned factors when they the contrast is larger. If you have darker skin, or have lighter hair, dont expect to get the same results that other, light-skinned, dark-haired people do. It is also best to temper your expectations somewhat. Laser hair removal will not always result on the permanent removal of hair; but it can most likely produce a permanent reduction in the hair growth. To ensure zero hair growth, you will probably have to kill all the hair follicles in the target area. This is prone to produce ugly scarring not the effect you wanted in the first place. Neither should you expect your laser hair removal to be a one-shot deal. The truth is that you will probably have to come back a few times to get the full benefit of the treatment. Because there are many factors that need to be considered, it is probably best if you see a licensed dermatologist before undertaking the procedure. The dermatologist will be able to run you through the advantages and disadvantages of the treatment. In any case, you will be more aware of the risks you are taking, whether it concerns your health or your finances. Wedding Cake Tips

April 20th, 2008 by amparotravers

By Nina Romanov Your wedding cake design should demonstrate your personal taste and style and of course fit the dcor of your reception. Follow me and I will help you with every step in choosing the right cake. You will develop a feeling of joy and relief, as you should, while preparing for your wedding. I promise you that. Choose your wedding cake only after you have decided on your gown, the bridesmaid dresses, the reception site, the theme, colors and anything else that could have an effect on which cake you choose. You could select a photo of a cake you love first and then try to match everything else to that. However, that approach will likely be much harder. After all once you cut and serve the cake everything else you have chosen to match it will still be there but the cake is just a memory. Couples only fool themselves if they think guests only care about the cakes taste and the decorating and design of a wedding cake. Other than the brides beautiful dress and glowing face nothing says wedding like a wonderfully decorated and designed wedding cake. Unique wedding cake inspiration may come from looking at pictures of wedding cake designs. You may find a photo that will help you design the wedding cake of your dreams to enhance your reception. There are several approaches one can take in choosing wedding cake designs, from traditional cream or white icing in classical designs to totally modern artistic colorful masterpieces. Nowadays anything goes. The wedding cakes we see today are very different than in the past. Designs have evolved to suit the taste of todays couples. More and more couples are choosing cupcake towers for the wedding. This is one of the newest and original wedding cake ideas ever. Another wedding cake style that is gaining in popularity is the miniature cake. Traditional round wedding cakes may soon fade out since all sorts of other shapes are becoming very popular. Square, oval, heart, octagon and other shapes are gaining in popularity. However some couples still prefer traditional round cakes and flavors like cheesecake for the wedding cakes. Whatever shape or flavor you choose, your wedding cake, to your friends and family will always symbolize love, the sweetness of life, prosperity and fertility. Here are some questions to ask yourself when deciding your wedding cake design. How much can you spend on the cake? Will the cake be the only dessert? How big of a cake will you need? Not every guest will want cake if you offer other desserts or a meal. Will a particular cake fit your reception decorating scheme and menu? Todays cake designers offer an almost endless variety of cake styles, decorating, choice of construction, flavors, icing and decorations. How many tiers do you want, in what colors? Do you want a custom made, one of a kind cake topper? Do you as a couple have a shared passion, job or hobby? Make your cake topper reflect that interest. You can get anything from animal to motorcycle cake toppers. Or do you just want a porcelain or crystal bride and groom cake topper? There are very nice online stores that sell a wide variety of elegant and whimsical wedding cake toppers. Are you planning to serve the cake as dessert or do you want to put slices in little boxes for the guests to take home? Try to make preliminary decisions on these and other issues before you consider visiting any bakery or cake designer. However stay open to suggestions from these experts. You can get your wedding cake from your caterer, reception site or bakery. Try to order your cake from someone who specializes in wedding cakes or who does one or more weddings a week. Ask for references and check them out. Ask past clients if they were satisfied with the cake and if they have any hints for dealing with this particular baker or bakery. Some newlyweds want to save the top layer of their wedding cake for their first anniversary or the birth of their first child. Check with your baker to see if he can freeze and store the top layer of your wedding cake for a year. Painless Marketing for People Who Hate to Market

April 14th, 2008 by amparotravers

By Kelly O’Brien Face ityou know youve got to do something to keep a steady stream of clients coming to your professional service firm. But when it comes to the m-word (marketing), youd rather not. Do any of these statements sound familiar? If were good enough, clients will find us or well get plenty of referrals. We dont have time were busy enough and have to maximize our billable hours. We cant afford to market we have no extra money. We have brochures and a website isnt that enough? We dont know where to start, even if we do want to attract more clients. We cant get key people inside our firm to agree on how or if to start. Promoting our firm is unprofessional, unethical, and tacky. These are all legitimate perspectives and shouldnt be minimized. But what if there was a painless way to get the following results?High-quality prospects seeking you out and coming to you, instead of you having to seek them out. Your firm reaching and helping more people with what you have to offer. Increasing the volume of clients from which you can choose, allowing your firm to be selective and work with only those you truly want. Differentiating your firm from your competition and articulating what makes you and your firm special. Tapping new networks that dont know about your firm yet. Wasting no more money on ineffective brochures, flyers, web sites and other marketing materials better yet, knowing if the investment you make is worth it. Raising your fees and being paid what you are worth. Learning how to grow and sustain your practice in any market. My guess is that youd be willing to take a closer look at some basic marketing principles and practices, if they could generate these results for your firm. The Ugly Truth Heres the ugly truth about attracting more clients: you have to make it a priority constantly, consistently, and carefully. So what can you do to make it less painfulor even painless? The answer depends on your firms view of marketing. Many of the professional service firms we work with tend to fall into one of two camps. Some firms are committed to using internal resources (i.e., partners, designated business development staff, or junior marketeers), and some wont or cant. Either way, marketing systems must become a core part of your day-to-day business practices. Look Before You Leap In both cases, you have to spend some time thinking about, developing, and testing what happens before you print brochures, develop a website, introduce yourself at a networking event, or write an article for a trade publication. Robert Middletons Five Laws of Marketing captures this well: Build your base (careful attention to your message): Get Attention: what you say and write to grab your prospects attention, introduce yourself, headline a talk or article, etc. Uniqueness: what makes you stand out from your competitors, such as a specific promise, standard, or guarantee; you must be very clear on who you do and dont serve Value: what you demonstrate through information that you share before you get hired free articles, white papers, survey results, workshops, etc. so that when the need arises, the client thinks of only you Authority: the proof that youre qualified to deliver what you say you can do; demonstrated via case studies with measurable results, media appearances, testimonials, bios, company background, etc.Reach out to the market (being constant and consistent): Relationship Building Systems: networking, direct outreach (personal or mass mail); keep in touch systems; centers of influence (banker, advisors), joint ventures, client relationship strategy, customer creation system, relationship selling strategy, value-based pricing strategy, next level strategies The key to these five laws is that all aspects of marketing must pull in the same direction. So if you have one vendor doing direct mail, another your website, and another your ads particularly before youve built your base (laws 1 through 4) chances are theyre all pulling in different directions. You must have a holistic plan that keeps your firm and your vendors pulling together. Making it Happen Knowing what to do is not the same as making it happen. Thats where most busy professional service firms fall down when it comes to marketing. Whether you do it yourself or hire an outside firm to help you, heres the basic process you should follow:Make a research-based plan of action thats strategic, contextual, and seamlessly aligned with your firms business goals; set priorities. Establish a process to stay on track and motivated. Use an approach that gets your team aligned and all working toward the same goals. Factor in support, guidance, and resources for the hard work of implementation. This Wont Hurt a Bit! You dont have to tackle all of this at once. Take it one step at a time. Effective marketing takes hold organically and grows over time. A steady pace lets you experience and evaluate any changes thoughtfully. You can reasonably expect to put all of these things in place in about six to nine months. Youll see results much sooner if your first steps are thoughtful, strategic, and carefully focused on building your base. Losing Weight and Changing Your Life

April 11th, 2008 by amparotravers

By Catherine Cauthorn OK, so here you are again searching online for the best, fastest, and easiest way to slim down, shape up, and improve your health, right? If you are anything like me, you have probably just come from the mall where everything you liked did not fit, or (EVEN WORSE) you finally had to step forth in the plus-sized shop (THE HORROR!). Well, I have been there, and believe me, I have tried it all too. Listen to what I have tried. I have tried Weight Watchers, LA Weight Loss, Slim in 6, 6 Week Body Makeover, the Tuna Diet (and I hate tuna), low carb, high carb, the apple diet..and the list goes on. I am telling you this, because I have been right where you are and have been frustrated just like you are. I am here to tell you that it does not have to be so frustrating. I will be honest and tell you that there are no magic pills, creams, or patches that will take it all away. You did not get to this weight overnight, and you will not lose it overnight either. The sooner you accept that this is a process, the happier you will be. So, what can you do? Well, I have compiled a set of tips that will help you on your way to healthy weight loss. 1. DRINK WATER! Our bodies crave this stuff! It fuels all of our systems, and without it, we would not survive. Now, I am a fan of plain, cold water, but I know some people cannot take that. So, those flavored waters can be good too. Just pay attention to the sugar content. 2. FIND A FRIEND! This can be someone who is losing weight with you or just a supportive friend. Having someone with you increases the accountability for your choices. It makes it more fun too. 3. FIND A SPIRITUAL ENCOURAGEMENT! This can be any source of spiritual guidance that keeps you grounded and focused. It can be anything from prayer to encouraging messages around your house. The key is to find the method that keeps you focused. 4. SET ATTAINABLE GOALS! You need to set goals that you can actually reach. Saying you want to lose 25 pounds in one week is impossible! But, saying you want to increase your water intake or walk two miles by the end of the week is attainable. Recheck your goals weekly so you can check your progress. 5. WATCH WHAT YOU BUY! If it is not in your cart, it is not in your house, and it is not in your mouth. Enough said! 6. EAT BREAKFAST! The old saying, Breakfast is the most important meal of the day really is true. You need to fuel your body so that it can work for you. Try lean proteins and a few carbs to energize you each day. 7. 5-6 SMALL MEALS PER DAY! Continually eating smaller meals helps recharge your metabolism so you will lose weight! 8. TREATS! Give yourself a treat. If you love McDonalds french fries, have a small serving once in awhile.
