UK Personal Loan Advice

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=George_McGonigal]George McGonigal Borrowing money is a big decision and not something that can be rushed into without thinking it through. Thats why most financial experts recommend you take the time to go through the advice section and answer the following questions. How much do I need to borrow and how much can I afford? What is a realistic repayment period for me? What are my other borrowing options? Should I go for a secured or unsecured loan? What do I need to know about interest rates? How do I find the best loan company or loan broker? How much do I need to borrow and how much can I afford? The amount of money you need to borrow will probably be the same as the cost of the holiday, car, or any other item you intend to purchase. In any case that is a decision for you to make, the only advice I can offer is to make sure you only borrow the amount of money that you really need that you can afford the repayments. In order to work out how much you can afford to pay back youll need to have a money management plan. This plan contains your budget, all household income and all household outgoings and helps you to identify what you want to do with any left over money at the end of the month. Once you have finished your plan you can see how much you can realistically afford to pay each month. That amount should then determine how much you borrow and over what time period you pay it back. What is a realistic repayment period for me? Its very temping to opt for a long repayment period as it means you can either pay back a smaller amount each month or even choose increase the amount of money you borrow. However you should remember that the longer the term of the loan the more money you will pay back in total (interest and charges). The repayment table below demonstrates the extra cost of longer repayment periods. However its equally important to not end going for the shortest possible repayment period you can afford and leaving your monthly balance sheet at zero with no room for movement should you spend more than you budgeted for in any given month. So always be careful to allow for any surprises and make sure you leave enough money so that you can enjoy yourself from time to time. Example repayment table (at 10%) Repayment period 3 years 5 years 10 years Amount borrowed 10,000.00 10,000.00 10,000.00 Total interest repaid 1,543.40 2,621.60 5,573.60 Monthly repayment 320.65 210.36 129.70 respectively What are my other borrowing options? Before taking out a personal loan you should always study what other options you have open to you to finance that purchase. If you have savings then it will definitely save you money to use the savings instead of paying interest on loans. Should using savings not be possible for you other forms of borrowing include the following. Overdrafts. If you only need money for a relatively short period of time and only every now and again then you should consider an overdraft facility. Overdrafts are not recommended for medium and long term borrowing. Credit Card. Credit Cards are another excellent form of short term lending. If you just need a bit of help from time too time then credit cards can be very handy and flexible. Most cards also offer cash back, 0% balance transfers for the first six months or low introductory rates. The typically higher APR of credit cards once the offer period expires means that they are not as cost effective as personal loans beyond the short term.Re-Mortgage. Another option for homeowners is re-mortgaging their homes to unlock the capital tied up in the property and with the significant growth in house values of the last few years most people do now have significant equity in their home. Interest rates for this type of borrowing are normally low but its worth remembering that you could be paying off your mortgage well into your previously planned retirement. Should I go for a secured or unsecured loan? Personal loans can be either secured or unsecured. A secured loan is secured on a major asset, usually the borrowers home. They are cheaper than unsecured loans but if you continually miss repayments (default on the loan agreement) you risk loosing your home as it can be seized by the lender and sold to repay your debt, although this is usually a last resort for most lenders. Secured loans are commonly used when borrowing larger sums of money over a long period of time. The other type of personal loan is an unsecured loan. If you don’t have a home or pay a mortgage then you can only take out unsecured loans. Unsecured loans are usually available for smaller amounts (500 - 15,000). These loans are more expensive because they are riskier for the lender as they can’t repossess your house to recover the loan if anything goes wrong. Of course unsecured loans are also open to homeowners as well. What do I need to know about interest rates? In short the lower the annual percentage rate (APR) the better. However the amount of interest you pay on a loan depends on your credit rating. If you have a good rating then you are a safer bet for the loan company and can therefore enjoy a lower interest rate. Its also worth noting that the rates you see advertised are often only available for people with excellent credit ratings or who borrow a specified minimum amount. Another common mistake is comparing loans based on interest rates. The interest rate on its own does not give the full picture as it doesnt include all charges. However help is at hand in the form of the annual percentage rate or APR, which is a calculation that allows consumers to benchmark and compare the cost of borrowing. APR takes into account both the interest rate you pay and any other fees charged by the loan provider. It also looks at when and how often interest and charges must be paid. So make sure you compare APRs when shopping around for the best deal and not the advertised interest rate. How do I find the best loan company or loan broker? Once you have answered all the other questions you are ready to start shopping around for the best value loan for your circumstances. Unless you get lucky first time then the only way to get the best loan is to do just that, shop around and compare rates. This is usually time consuming but often worthwhile as the difference from one lender to another is often in the hundreds. Loan Brokers claim to do the searching for you but are not necessarily the cheapest and sometimes have a large fee so make sure you check out lots of companies for yourself. Its also worth remembering that the cheapest loan companies arent always the best. So go with a company that you feel you can trust even if it costs you a little more. Some of the smaller and less ethical companies will provide a lower standard of customer service and possibly apply more charges than some of the more established lenders that have brand names to protect. So off you go and get the best value loan you can find. Good Luck. George McGonigal George is webmaster of an online personal loan resourcs website for UK borrowers. Rejection or Not Approaching Women The Choice Is Yours

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Teddy Shabba What is more painful for you to get rejected by a woman or to simply not approach a woman at all? If you are like most men, then the pain of rejection is about a hundred times worst than the pain of not approaching a woman at all. Even though, in reality the results of both are the same; you don’t get the girl. Yet, the truth is that your perception of the reality of what you will experience with a woman isn’t really real. For instance rejection may or may not happen when you approach a woman and not getting the woman is all but guaranteed when you don’t approach a woman. Perhaps you did or did not know this already and even still it doesn’t change the fact that it is more painful for you to deal with rejection than it is to simply not approach women. It is important to understand that you more than likely had no say or choice in the matter of what you chose to experience pain in as that was made by your circle of influence a long time ago. However, you can decide to change what you choose to experience pain in right now and instantly change your behavior when approaching women. Of course the key to change is going to be to link pain to not approaching women at such a high level of emotional intensity that you will not even consider not approaching women any longer. Remember, in order to succeed with women it requires you to be able to handle the possibility of rejection in order to have pleasure with women. Relationships Handbook: How to be a Good Enemy

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Neil Warner Can you think of having a good enemy in your relationships? If you need to fight with someone, what kind of response from this person is best for you? Let’s think of what it means to do battle with a “good enemy”! A Good Enemy does not avoid the confrontation, does not escape from your angry words, does not slam the door and/or rejects the whole interaction. A person who is a good enemy stays and listens to the barrage of accusations, ignores the dramatic way of message delivery, and listens instead to the hidden content (which could be frustration, a deep need for contact, or the desperation of loneliness) And then this person can say to you, honestly: Thanks for telling me this: I will try to understand your point of view as best as I can. What is the difference? A Good Enemy refuses to escalate, and listens. This kind of response does not attempt to avoid the confrontation: it intends to process it by different means. It also means to listen to the message and ignore the envelope where the message was wrapped: angry words, high voice, aggressive words, emotional positioning, and recover the meaning hidden under the noises: There is a problem, someone is upset about it, and I’d better take notice and listen. Some people are so upset by the way things are said, that they don’t pay attention to what is said: in this way, the rejection of the wrapping allows them to reject content. Doing so they can ignore the whole message: the content and the style of delivery! A Good Enemy will try to repeat back to you the same content in different and respectful ways, up until you listen to yourself, own your own ideas even if it hurts, and then move to problem solving together! You can try to apply this technique in your own relationships: Adopt a listening attitude. Take Control of yourself, and refuse to retaliate. Repeat back the main points as close as you can, from the information you just listened to.(But avoid doing it in a hurting, ironic or sarcastic manner) Then ask for time to think about the issues, and to let your feelings settle down. (But fix a deadline for the next talk). See how your partner reacts to your new and different approach, and build momentum by shifting from confrontation mode into working a solution together mode. You will never regret it. This is one of the many other techniques you can use to respond your partners requests or to present your side of the story without risking damaging your relationship. If you can remember that beyond the high voices, rough words and impatient demeanor there is still a strong demand for your love, then the picture gets into a different frame, and perhaps you can recover the emotional connection that you so much need. Promotional Campaigns: 7 Successful Steps For Preparing Your Sales Team

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Kym Moore Preparing your sales staff and support team in the planning stages of your proposed promotional campaign will get everyone on board with what they are responsible for, in order to make your event a success. A clear and concise plan of action will keep down confusion and ensure that everyone understands your mission. Here are 7 steps to effectively plan and execute a successful promotion: 1. Name/Theme of Your Promotional Campaign (you can additionally use slogans or logos if you prefer). 2. Focus on specific products or services according to your clients needs. 3. Support materials/collateral needed to present your products or services successfully (posters, fliers, banners, signs, displays, etc.). 4. Get customer communication distributed about the event (Letters, direct mail, e-blast, e-newsletters, fliers, catalogues, etc.). 5. Have a “push list” of products or services available for all sales associates. 6. Create a clientele file for every customer attending your event. Not every client is going to buy from you, therefore ask non-purchasing customers if they would like to sign up to be notified of future sales or promotions. 7. Follow-up immediately after your event is over, with thank you notes and/or a courtesy telephone call to all of your customers. This may be time consuming, but going this extra mile to thank your patrons will definitely pay off in the long run. Some of your training emphasis should reiterate the following: Approach and Greet (How to professionally begin your selling process in person, over the telephone or online) Build your sales through link or multiple selling Filling out a client file for all of your invitees or attendees Closing your sale productively Afterwards you want to evaluate the success of your event. This will allow you to closely examine the positive aspects, as well as the challenges. Track your sales during your event (date, sales, number of purchasing customers, etc.). Looking through the eyes of your customers, be sure that your business meets these primary guidelines: Visibility Make sure your customers can easily find you if you have a storefront. Accessibility You must be able to contact your customers and vice versa. If your business is homebased or online, it is just as important as a storefront business to have your customers be able to reach you effortlessly. Availability Make sure you are able to keep your supply of products or services in sync with demand. Effective communication will promote a long term relationship with your loyal and frequent customers. These are some essential steps to ensure that you will not only have a satisfied customer, but a repeat patron as well. When To Send Flowers And When Not To - Etiquettes

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Amy Nutt Flowers are perhaps the most popular gift all over the world. Flowers appeal to all our senses and brighten up our lives and our hearts. Flowers convey a warm feeling to the recipient. They express the exact sentiment that one might find difficult to convey in words. The main reason for the popularity of flowers is their ability to bring good cheer and convey the right message in their own language. There are many occasions when flowers are sent to loved ones. Wedding, birthday, Mother’s Day, Valentines Day, Easter/Passover, Thanksgiving Day are some such occasions when you send flowers to your friends and relatives. Wedding flowers are both decoration and a tradition. Gifting beautiful flowers alongside a carefully chosen present enhances the beauty of the gift. Moreover, by giving flowers to the newly wed couples, you express your wish for their wedding life to be filled with the same sweet fragrance as that of flowers. Flowers are also the perfect way to wish happy birthday to a friend or a dear one. On Mother’s Day, you can give your mother a gift of beautiful flowers for all that she does throughout the year for you. A flower is also a symbol of love and can be gifted to girlfriend or spouse on Valentines Day or wedding anniversary. It is also a way to say sorry or thank you to your partner. The most romantic flower gift always carries a special significance. Flowers are also a way to express empathy and condolence. Sending appropriate funeral flowers is a show of etiquette and means a lot to the bereaved family. While there are so many occasions for sending flowers, there are also some occasions when you should not send flowers to someone based on his/her religion or customs. For example, in Muslim community, it is not customary to send flowers to a family on death of a member. The color of the flowers also has its own significance. In Asia and some other countries, the White color symbolizes mournful and unhappy occasions. So never gift white flowers to someone on occasions of happiness while you are in these countries. It is also equally important to present the correct number of flowers as a gift. The appropriate number varies from place to place. In USA, a dozen flowers is customary and just appropriate, while in Europe and some other places, even numbers are considered inappropriate. Number 13 is considered unlucky in almost every part of the world and number 4 is associated with death in some parts of Asia. So never gift flowers to someone in these numbers. Hypnosis - A Valuable Medical Tool!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Gabriel J. Adams We are all familiar with the kind of hypnosis seen in Las Vegas shows, but we are only slightly familiar with medical hypnosis. Medical hypnosis isn’t all that new, though. The British Medical Association recognized the value of hypnosis in medical treatments as early as 1955. The American Medical Association followed suit in 1958. For use in psychological therapy, the American Psychiatric Association acknowledged its potential in 1962. Now, hypnosis as a valuable medical tool has been fairly well established, though it is not fully understood how or why it works. There is still a lot of research being done to determine just how extensive its usefulness is. The number of diseases and conditions it has the potential to aid treatment of grows continually. There is a rather long list of things that are known to be helped by hypnotherapy. Some of the most common are weight loss, quitting smoking, stress management, motivation, self-esteem and pain management. For all of these, the process is pretty much the same. An altered state of consciousness is induced that brings the patient to a higher state of suggestibility. The desired suggestion is made and then the patient returns to a normal state of consciousness. This is a rather simplistic description but it gets the point across. Many people think of being under hypnosis as being in a trance or waking sleep-like state. The truth is that you are more likely to be more focused. You are going to be more open to things like suggestion and be less disbelieving or critical. Being in a more focused state of mind helps in the suggestions necessary to treat the pertinent condition. If the condition being treated is quitting smoking, you are going to be able to incorporate the suggestions of aversion to smoking and affirmations of positive replacements better than if you were in a normal, less focused state on mind. In pain management, this ability to focus is useful in taking a measure of the pain and then reducing its severity with strong relaxation methods. With repeated practice, it is possible to stop more pain each time. Hypnosis has shown itself to be very effective to ease labor pains during childbirth, thus reducing stress for both the mother and the infant. Hypnosis works well for weight control, too. Through hypnosis, the appetite can be more easily controlled. Suggestions can also be made to make healthier food choices, too. Since being overweight also carries self-esteem problems, these can be addressed, as well. In fact, addressing this problem along with the other issues in weight loss makes the therapy more effective since low self-esteem is self-defeating. These are just a few of the medical uses of hypnosis. There are many more and new ways of using hypnosis in medicine are being studied and researched. It is possible that, as more uses are found, the more invasive medical procedures will become easier to tolerate and even less necessary. What is Skimming

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Mark Lambie In speaking of drawbacks of credit cards another form is the fraud of making copies of stored information upon the credit card, also known as Skimming. This has become extremely popular for those who are making the business of stealing other peoples financial information and making use of it. Each time you let your credit card leave your hands, you run the risk of credit card skimming. In general, skimming occurs in a public place such as a restaurant, shop, or retail store. Anyone who is dishonest and in the fraud business such as a cashier or waiter could swipe the credit card for payment of their services and then unbeknownst to you swipe it a second time in a device known as a skimmer. A skimmer is a small device that is similar to the size of a pager that has a slot; this is purchased very easily on the internet. What it does is it will record information stored upon a credit card (magnetic strip) and it will do so extremely fast. Then the information that it records is passed to thieves who will then put the information upon a credit card that is counterfeit. This essentially means that your money is now in the hands of the thieves. There is only one way to prevent this action and that is to make sure you always keep a sharp eye upon the credit cards. Skimming has also known to take place at various unwatched ATMS such as those within a mall. Your credit card could become stuck within the ATM or done in such a way that you believe that the ATM has kept your card for some reason, but in actuality, the thief has inserted something within the ATM in efforts to steal your card along with a camera that has recorded your pin number. It is important that you become extremely aware of your surroundings and keep close eyes upon your surroundings. Make sure, if the ATM ever keeps your card that, you immediately report the instance to the bank or Credit Card Company. Additionally, you should ensure that each credit card statement you receive, you carefully examine it for anything that should not be on there. Make sure you keep all limits of credit low upon credit cards to help minimize losses if you do fall prey to skimming. With the risks of being financially crippled, you should be keenly aware of any and all activity in regards to your credit cards. What’s Wrong with Gnosticism?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Sean Mize Recently we Christians have been bombarded with a slew of Gnostic readings and studies which gnaw at the heels of Christianity. Since the discovery of the Coptic Gospel of Thomas at Nag Hammadi in Egypt in 1945, scholars have had a heyday deciphering the purpose behind the Gnostic faith. So what is Gnosticism? Without getting too intellectual or theological, Gnosticism basically indicates that the requirement of salvation is special knowledge from God, which they call, simply, knowledge. Although Gnostics admit that Jesus came to earth to save mankind, Gnostics believe He came to bring this special knowledge which would lead people to salvation. They did not believe that Jesus Christ actually lived and died as a fully human individual, nor that He died for the remission of our sins. Instead, they believe that He only appeared to be human, and that either an image of Him was crucified or that someone else was crucified, and the people of the time didnt realize that they were crucifying the wrong person (imagine that!). Why is this such a big deal? First of all, Jesus Christ Himself said, while He was here on earth, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (Jn. 3:16). So there it is, Jesus Christ Himself said that it is faith in Him, not the knowledge He brings, that is the key to salvation. When Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, prepared to be offered a conciliatory sacrifice for the salvation of the human race, He begged the Father, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done (Lk 22:42, quotes added). The cup, of course was His soon-to-come crucifixion. If Jesus Christ were not truly human, would He have had any need to ask the Father to remove the cup from Him? If Jesus wasnt really going to be crucified, but rather someone else was going to take His place, would He have asked the Father to take the cup from Him? Of course not. Next, Luke records: And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground (LK. 22:44-45). Would Jesus have needed an angel to strengthen Him or would He have sweat blood if He were not really going to die? And back to the plea in verse 42 above, if there were any method by which salvation could have been accomplished (e.g. knowledge), then why would the Father have let His own Son suffer such agony? The reason Christ died was because there was no other way. If the way to heaven were via knowledge, then Christ could have delivered the knowledge, left earth, and gone back to heaven. But knowledge isnt the way to heaven; the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ is. Hence His complete humanity and complete death, burial, and subsequent resurrection. If Gnosticism has merit, Jesus Christ died in vain. I believe He died for me. What about you? Did He die in vain, or did He die for you? Note: Scripture references are from the KJV. Organizing a School Classroom Party

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Pam Lester Before the party Its always a good idea to talk to the teacher before you start planning your party or purchasing items. You may plan everything ahead of time and then come to find out that a student has an allergy or that certain decorations arent allowed. Here are some good questions to start with: Do any children have food allergies? Usually the teacher will have been notified if any children have food allergies. Are there any decorating restrictions? Most teachers recommend not bringing balloons because of possible safety issues, but if they are allowed they make for quick and easy decorating! How long will I have to set up before the party? The answer to this question is really important. This will determine the type of party that you will have. If you have only a very short time, you will have to limit your decorations and serve easy and quick party foods, etc. Most of the time, the teachers will take the kids outside and allow you about 10-15 min. for setup. This is also a good time to make sure that you will have parent helpers! Do you allow holiday-specific themed parties, or do you prefer general holiday parties? Some schools/teachers prefer to stay away from the specific holiday and steer more towards the general season, so be sure to check with your teacher. Even if they want you to stick with a seasonal theme, youll probably be able to throw in some holiday ideas too. Example: your teacher may want you to stick with a fall theme instead of Halloween, but you will probably be able to put a Ghost Lollipop into their gift bag, etc. Just make sure to check on any restrictions. Are there any food items that arent allowed? Some schools/teachers prefer no soda pop for a party, and sometimes frown on wrapped hard candies so be sure to check if there are any rules/preferences. Are classroom supplies available to use for the party? If you need to use items like glue sticks, tape, or scissors for your party craft dont assume that the teacher will let you use the class supply. Check with her first to see if that is okay if not be sure to bring your own supplies. This question also applies if you want to play music during the party. The teacher may have a CD player in the class, but be sure that you will be able to use it! Even though you are the room rep, you will still need other parents help for the party so be sure to ask for volunteers to bring items, and to help you with the party itself. Be sure to send home reminders! Make a party plan including a schedule of what you want to do. Purchase and prepare all supplies that are needed. If you are doing a craft, I recommend pre-cutting and sorting the supplies into a zip lock bag for each child, and putting a basket with glue/scissors, etc into the middle of each table. It makes it much easier to pass out the craft supplies if they are already prepared in individual baggies! Assemble goodie bags or any take-home gifts ahead of time as well. Use class-parties.com to help plan your event and to gather your food ideas, crafts and party games. Setting up party Try to get to the school a little bit earlier than planned. The parking lot usually fills up fast on party days so the earlier you are the closer you get to park, and that makes a BIG difference when you are lugging all the party stuff around. Party supplies, crafts, food and juice boxes can be heavy and cumbersome so bring along a rolling cart or a wagon to make the trip from the car to the classroom a breeze. Most teachers take their students out of the room during your party set up but be prepared if that doesnt happen. You can bring along themed coloring pages and markers or crayons, or have music or a movie playing. Just be prepared in case! Ask your parent helpers to be there early to help you set up. I recommend passing out all the food and drinks first so when the kids come back in, they can sit down and start eating right away. Set up the rest of your activities and decorations. ***Be sure to make a plate for the teacher!!!*** This should be a relaxing and fun time for the kids and the teacher! During the party Class parties are fun and memorable for kids, so be sure to bring along a camera to catch those memories! The pictures can be shared with the teachers and parents or even put in a school newsletter! Try to find music to go with the party. It really helps set the mood and the kids love it. You can also use the music as a quick back-up game if needed (musical chairs, dance/freeze, etc.) Have a parent helper go around with a trash bag during the party to clean up after the kids, and another parent assigned to help with refills or seconds. The kids should usually eat first, and then play a game (if planned). While the game is going on you can clear the desks for a craft or activity if you have one set up. If you are doing a craft make sure to write the childs name on it so they dont get theirs mixed up with their neighbor. If you want to do two things, but only have time for one activity ( either a craft OR a game, but not both), then you can set up two stations and have the class do the game while the other does the craft; then have them switch. You can find TONS of free crafts and games at www.class-parties.com! You should be the one in charge of how things progress during the party and make sure that things move along. This should be a fun time for the teacher, but if there are discipline problems you should probably refer the student to the teacher and let her take care of the problem. Party getting too loud or out of hand? Bring a book along with you that relates to the holiday or season. Its good to have as a back-up in case your class gets too rowdy. You can call them to sit in a circle and read a quick and interesting story to them. Theyll quiet down pretty quickly, but will still be having fun! Check the reading list on class-parties.com for great book suggestions. Watch that clock! Make sure that you are finishing up on time. Most class parties take place during the end of the school day, so you will need to wrap up the party on time to allow students to get their backpacks ready and lined up for dismissal. After the party Make sure the children have their goody bags and/or take home projects as they leave to go home. Use extra trash bags to pick up all the trash and leftover food. If you have extra un-opened juice boxes save those for the next party. Wipe down desks and tables and clean up the floor, and take down any decorations you brought. The teacher will appreciate it if you put the classroom back the way it was before you got there (maybe a bit cleaner!). Be sure to send thank you notes to the parents who helped during the party!
